Approach
Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes and
take place at a fixed time on a weekly basis.
Although short-term therapy can offer some support, especially
when dealing with an immediate crisis, long-term therapy
is more far-reaching and offers a greater opportunity for
meaningful change; it is over a longer period of time that
the therapeutic relationship is able to develop and deepen,
therefore allowing a client to safely explore difficult
patterns of thought and behaviour.
Long-term therapy can be open-ended, though most relationships last for somewhere between a year and five years. It is important to discuss and reflect upon possible aims or goals at the outset of the therapy and this is encouraged.
